EmergeNet

For those of you wondering where I've been, what I've been up to, and more. This past week I was in Chicago for a joint meeting of the eMERGE (electronic MEdical Records & Genomics) Network. This is a consortium of various institutions funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (including Vanderbilt, Northwestern, the Mayo Clinic, the Marshfield Clinic, and the Group Health Cooperative / U. of Washington / Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) to conduct genome wide association studies with patient's DNA and information derived from existing electronic medical records. As part of the network, I conduct research on the "re-identification" risks associated with de-identified patient records and how to design technologies and policies to formally protect patient privacy.

Random Shots

Over the past several months, I've been introduced to several sites of interest (and revisited several that I've been hoarding. Though they are not necessarily new, they're worth checking out:

ETSY - buy more art
WOOT - one day, one deal
WHICHBUDGET - help in finding cheap international flights. This website really saved Sara and me a decent amount of money while searching for a flight between Geneva and Prague.

The Adam and Molly Show

I know, I know. I don't blog like I used to. Maybe it's because I haven't been taking pictures during my travels of late (Bay Area, Chicago, South Bend, Pittsburgh, Ottawa). Or maybe it's because I've been busy with work. Or maybe because Sara and I just sold our house and bought a new one (yep - more on that one soon)!

Regardless of the reason for my lack of blog-contributions, I wanted to let interested parties in on Molly (Sara's sister) and Adam's (her hubbie) travels around the UK and the amazing pictures that Molly captures! Fortunately for us, the pictures are online and available via Picassa! The pictures of the ponies are priceless!
