EmergeNet

For those of you wondering where I've been, what I've been up to, and more. This past week I was in Chicago for a joint meeting of the eMERGE (electronic MEdical Records & Genomics) Network. This is a consortium of various institutions funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (including Vanderbilt, Northwestern, the Mayo Clinic, the Marshfield Clinic, and the Group Health Cooperative / U. of Washington / Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) to conduct genome wide association studies with patient's DNA and information derived from existing electronic medical records. As part of the network, I conduct research on the "re-identification" risks associated with de-identified patient records and how to design technologies and policies to formally protect patient privacy.
